Freelance Writer, Musician, and Mommy
I moved to Fayetteville January 1st, 2009. I have a loving husband and two boys (Cavan, 7 months, and Camden, 2 years). When I am not busy with my boys, I enjoy writing, taking photographs, and singing. I served as resident artist with Opera Carolina in Charlotte and was most recently employed with USC-Lancaster as an instructor of music. Since moving to Fayetteville, I have been staying home with my boys; I am constantly looking for ways to entertain my toddler. If you need a singer, look me up! I can also send you a demo.

My mornings are usually a little bit chaos with a dash of crazy, but things really seem to get off to the wrong start when the boys wake me up first. I really need to force myself to get out of bed when I hear Ryan leave for work, but up until recently, my youngest was still waking at least once every night wanting a bottle or a diaper. Camden (3 years) and Cavan (18 months) wake up between 6:30 and 7:30 every morning. I can hear Cavan in his crib "whoo, whooing" and laughing to himself. He is a…

Just to refresh your memories, I have two boys (Camden 3, and Cavan 17 months). Right now we are in the stage where every routine involving diapering, dressing, brushing teeth, or washing hands is an epic battle. I have tried everything, from singing songs to dangling shiny toys in front of their eyes, to try and slow them down long enough to change a diaper or wipe a nose. Hygiene is the biggest challenge we are facing now as far as I'm concerned. I can handle it if they can't yet grasp the con…

I was excited when my newly repackaged CD of classical songs and opera arias arrived yesterday, only to discover a misprint on the jacket. I will have to order a new cover.
I will be unloading all these CDs for the cost of shipping (about $4). Message me with your address if you would like a copy.
Classical music is good for you and your babies, too! Open up to a whole new world of music! The CD consists of 10 tracks with 2 Italian selections, 3 French songs, 2 Spanish songs, and 3 engli…

Cavan (16 months) had his first visit to the ER a couple of months ago when he fell and busted his little baby button nose on the cold, low-level monkey bars of a local playground (see my previous blog entitled "Baby Rocky" for the full story). Since then he has been bumped, bruised, battered, and now that he is in daycare part-time, even bitten.
This morning I was cleaning up from breakfast when I witnessed my baby tumble once again to the ground before I could catch his fall. Since the day he…

Simple Tips and Recipe
The season is upon us. Cold viruses, the flu in its various guises, and hosts of other communicable illnesses invade our schools, shopping malls, and supermarkets in an attempt to ruin the holidays. Many of us have already stocked up on seasonal goodies such as hand sanitizer, tissue, and now with the threat of H1N1, facial masks; there are, however, other things we can do to combat the viral armies. Maintaining a healthy diet, especially in winter, is a great line…

If we have any interesting volunteer jobs come up, I will let you know. No obligation.
In the meantime, have you checked out our Resource Lending Library? You mention that you are looking for things to do with your son, they have all kinds of toys, and story and art time twice a month. The toys are the educational kind that children don't realize are educational. I know my children always got bored with their toys - with the library, you can get new ones every two weeks. They have everything from small puzzles to ride on toys.
I enjoyed reading your blog. It contains a lot of great information for parents. I am the Communications Manager at the Partnership for Children and we are always looking to meet more people who are passionate about making sure all children get the highest quality early childhood education. Are you interested in working with us on advocacy efforts or doing any volunteer work?
Or, just coming by to learn more about us and the services we provide? I know you have young children, and they are welcome to come with you - we are very family friendly.
Let me know if you are interested.
